Q: I’m not sure if my car is compatible ?
A: The compatibility list shows the vehicles this particular kit is compatible with. For full vehicle listings please download our full compatibility pdf which details all vehicle models.
If you believe your car is compatible but its not on the list, then view our harness guide pdf to see if you have the correct connector on the rear of your head unit.
Finally if you are still unsure then please email us your vehicle make, year and stereo details and we'll let you know.
Q: Will my factory fitted CD changer still function ?
A: Any multi CD/changer built into the head unit will continue to work, an external CD changer will usually be replaced by this kit. Note: Your stereo should be CD changer compatible.
Q: My car does not have a CD changer, will this kit work ?
A: Yes, the Grom kit imitates a factory installed CD changer and if your car is on the compatibility list then a specific port should be present on the OEM head unit.
Q: How many playlists are supported on the iPod ?
A: Usually 6. On Toyota, new Honda and Nissan you can have up to 99 folders typically we recommend using a manageable number of playlists.
Q: How do I switch between iPod/Bluetooth/Aux-in modes ?
A: If using iPod mode then iPod will pause automatically once Bluetooth is activated. If Aux-in mode is used, you need to manually pause the aux-in device when iPod or Bluetooth is activated..
Q: What connectors does the IPD3 interface have ?
A: There are three connectors, a 20 pin vehicle specific cable for connection to the car and two mini-din ports, one used for the included iPod cable and a second for an optional accessory (purchased separately).
Q: I'm unsure if I can install this myself ?
A: Installing a Grom Audio kit is a very easy task, once the head unit is removed, simply connect the factory matched connector to the port on the rear of the head unit, then route the cables and interface to your preferred vehicle location such as glove box/centre console/arm rest then install the head unit and enjoy! Full instructions are provided excluding head unit removal. Some head units depending on your vehicle may be more of a challenge to remove, however we suggest searching for your vehicle and head unit removal on YouTube, you can't beat watching a video of the process! If you are not technically minded then any local tradesman or friend with a basic understanding of electronics/automotive engineering could help.
Q: Can an iPhone be used as a hands free phone and music player at the same time with this kit ?
A: Yes, if using an iPhone as the music player (iPod mode) you can also pair the same phone or a completely different phone so that when a call comes in the music will pause and resume when the call is ended.
Q: Head unit v boot mounting ?
A: Some cars have the option of mounting the kit in the boot/trunk where a factory CD changer connector is located. Installation is easy this way as there is no stereo to remove, however your Grom device will remain in the boot. We can supply an extension cable should you require, allowing you to use your iPod/iPhone/MP3 player in the front of the vehicle - see our store for more details .
