Grom Audio FAQ

Grom Audio Adapter Comparison Chart

* Some function may not be available on certain headsets

Q: Who are Grom Audio?
A:GROM Audio are an American manufacturer of car audio protocol converters. We have found that due to the nature of retro fitting audio devices into automobiles great understanding/knowledge of the European car markets is essential.

Q: How easy is it to install an adapter?
A: The most difficult part is removing the stereo, on some cars this is very easy on others it can be quite tricky involving the use of stereo removal keys which can also be purchased from our store. There are plenty of stereo removal guides on YouTube or a great site for help is www.fitaudio.com
Once the stereo is removed all you have to do is connect the factory matched connector to the port on the rear of the stereo, then route the cable and box to your preferred location (glove box, centre console, arm rest etc.) and then refit the stereo.

Q: Which vehicle specific cable do I need?
A: Please see our compatibility chart

Q: Headset v Trunk mounting?
A: Some cars have the option of mounting the kit in the trunk where a factory CD changer connector is located. To connect the kit in the trunk is easier to install than via the headset but this may not be suitable if using an iPod/iPhone. If you do require an iPod connection in the trunk we can provide an extension cable - see our store.

Q: Can an iPhone be used as a hands free car kit with these adapter?
A:The Grom iPod/iPhone kit is designed as a CD changer replacement as a music source. If you are using the iPhone to play music via your stereo and the phone rings the music is put on hold, you can answer the phone in the same way as you do now whether this is paired with a Bluetooth kit or hand held. When a call is active the iPhone will not pass a call through the iPhone connector cable (Apple prevent this) therefor you will not hear your call through the car speakers. There is a workaround that we do not support, if you connect an audio lead into the Aux port of the Grom adapter and the headphone socket of the iPhone, the call will pass through your car speakers using the iPhone mic.

Q: I’m not sure if my car is compatible?
A: The list above shows the cars that this particular kit is compatible with. Please download the full compatibility list detailing all vehicle models.
If your still unsure then please email us your vehicle / stereo details and we‘ll let you know.
Should you think that your car is compatible but is not on the list then view our harness guide as this displays a picture of what the Grom connector should plug into, if you have this it will more than likely be compatible.

Q: Will my Factory CD changer still function?
A: Any in-dash CD changer will remain working but an external CD changer will be redundant. Note: Your stereo should be CD changer capable.
